Where to find Thalgo?
Home The SeaCleaners The SeaCleaners
The sea has always been a source of vital energy for humans.
Thanks to the presence of marine plants, the ocean releases more oxygen into the atmosphere than all the world’s forests.
But aquatic pollution is suffocating this ecosystem, with 80% of it coming from land.
Today, there is one piece of plastic waste for five fish.
If we do not act, in 30 years there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans!
The sea, the explorer, fell into it as a child, on a first round-the-world trip that will last three years, with his brother and his parents, at the age of eight.
“At the time, there wasn't all this rubbish. Thirty-five years later, I sailed for two months in the middle of plastics”
The "sea gladiator" stops dozens of times a day to clear the debris blocking the boat. When he sets foot on land, his project for a boat called "Manta" to collect plastic in the ocean has already started to mature.
In 2016, he created the association THE SEACLEANERS, dedicated to reducing plastic pollution.
“Our objective is to fight at sea and on land, through corrective and preventive missions. "
The Manta project consists of building a giant catamaran that depollutes and recycles that will roam the oceans most exposed to plastic pollution on the world from 2024.
Higher (60m), longer (55m), wider (25m) than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Manta’s name is apt, that of a ray, which has measurements and abilities that defy the laws of nature.
Its design incorporates several innovative technologies in terms of renewable energy production.
“When there’s not enough sun or wind, we’ll still have the fuel generated by pyrolysis of the non-recyclable plastic collected”. Yvan Bourgnon.
While waiting for it to be launched, small boats called MOBULA will start removing pollution from river and coastal waters from 2021.
Today, THALGO is mobilizing alongside the association THE SEACLEANERS to clean up the oceans and reduce plastic waste, by acting at 3 levels:
PLASTIC DEPOLLUTION OF THE OCEANS
The Manta boat project will collect and recycle plastic macro-waste, before it sinks.
Under the aegis of THE SEACLEANERS, THALGO will increase collection operations to act upstream of ocean pollution.
REDUCING PLASTIC CONSUMPTION
THALGO & THE SEACLEANERS are mobilizing, with the general public, to change daily habits and reduce plastic waste.
